Basseterre, St. Kitts (May 20, 2005): The Dieppe Bay and Old Road communities welcomed the town hall meeting to discuss issues related to the closure of the sugar industry to their area last night.
The retraining and re-orientation of workers, proposed future land use and severance payment were among the hot topics of the evening.

A live radio and television panel discussion is planned at the completion of the island-wide town hall meetings on 31st May on ZIZ.

A press conference will also take place to give exposure to the outcomes and issues arising out of the sessions. An official noted that this would lead to greater public involvement.

The Sugar Industry closes officially on July 30th, 2005.
