~~Adz:Right~~ BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is reporting that the institution has seen additional success in the removal of an illegal firearm from the streets of the Federation.

According to a police press release, last Wednesday “police on Nevis responded to an area in Rawlins and carried out a search in an abandoned building and recovered one .40 pistol and three rounds of .40 ammunition. The firearm and ammunitions were taken into custody but no one was arrested for the find”.

This find, according to the authorities, brings to 30 and 1 600, the number of firearms and ammunition respectively, recovered by the police force for the year. The number of firearms recovered thus far for the year is eight more than that in 2007.

“The High Command of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force will like to publicly thank the general public for their invaluable information and cooperation that have led to the recovery of these 30 firearms and continues to solicit your input in our crime fighting initiatives,” the press release stated.

During other operations conducted by the security forces, searches were conducted in the Newtown, Mc Knight, St. Johnson Village, La Guerite, Monkey Hill and Conaree areas for “illegal drugs, arms and ammunitions”. While 20 individuals were searched, none of them was found carrying any illegal substances; however, in one of the abandoned houses searched, “a quantity of cannabis and crack cocaine was found”. The house in which the substances were found is located on Pitcairn Street but, again, no one was held accountable for the find.
