BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE fire alarm installed in TDC Mall, adjacent to the Family Snackette Restaurant, was triggered early yesterday morning (Oct. 20) at around 9:15 and members of the Fire and Rescue Services promptly responded only to discover that it was a false alarm.

SKNVibes spoke to an officer on-scene, who concluded that the alarm had probably been triggered either by a glitch in the system or foolhardy play by persons.

Felix Frederick, a Fire Stop Station Officer, shed some light on the situation.

“TDC Mall’s alarm is wired through Caribbean Security Systems (CSS), so when it was activated CSS was alerted. They’re then required to contact [the fire station] and we respond to the call by going on-scene,” Frederick explained.

He noted that the fire station typically receives three or four of these calls per month, and once an entity has an alarm that is wired through CSS and it is triggered, the alert is communicated to the Fire and Rescue Services.

ECCB is presently the only organisation with a fire alarm that automatically alerts the fire station itself. Fredericks stated that there were once plans to equip Government Headquarters with the same system; however, an unidentified problem occurred and they were unable to do so.  ~~Adz:Right~~

Businesspersons should take heed, as this system is available to all private entities and workplaces.
