BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, MAY 23RD 2005 St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Denzil L. Douglas is optimistic that the International University of Nursing, with its cutting edge of technology, will assist in the globalisation of the services being offered in the twin-island Federation.
Dr. Douglas said the nine-month construction of the three buildings, which comprise the International School of Nursing at Camps, just outside the capital of Basseterre, is also testimony to the skills and labour of local workmen under the guidance of Mr. Victor Williams of Williams Architectural.
This is an international university that is going to be sought after. It will not only provide opportunities for our people here in St. Kitts and Nevis, but it globalizes the services that St. Kitts and Nevis is able to offer to the international community in terms of higher education, specifically, in the field of nursing, said Prime Minister Douglas at the end of a tour of the campus.
Dr. Douglas said the US$15 million project is testimony to the partnership between an investor and a Government that is friendly to private sector development.

It is the kind of partnership that I have been speaking about that we can develop here in St. Kitts and Nevis, especially as my Government grapples with the difficulties and the challenges of transitioning this economy away from sugar agriculture into tourism and financial services, said Prime Minister Douglas, who highlighted the willingness of the Government to work with the private sector to encourage direct foreign and local investment in the economic development of St. Kitts and Nevis.
President of the International University of Nursing, Mr. Warren Ross, told the Communications Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister, that the building closest to the coast line, houses the 200-seat auditorium with state-of-the-art technology that includes plasma projectors, lcd projectors and computers for PowerPoint presentations.
Our campus is virtually wireless. In every auditorium, classroom, laboratory, they are wireless, so that students can access the internet and on internal computers for purposes of education and will be able to down load notes from the faculty. The equipment is very state of the art, said Ross.
The library (middle building) can accommodate 200 students. It is wireless and the Learning Resource Centre has the capacity to accommodate 36 students with individual computers so that they can connect right into the internet and all the educational software that we have on our servers, said Ross.
