PAM to Announce Central Basseterre Candidate on Facebook Tuesday

Attorney Jonel Powell
Press Release

Basseterre, 19th February, 2013, (PAM Communications Unit):- – The People’s Action Movement, PAM, is about to enter an exciting roll out phase of its preparations for General Elections in St. Kitts and Nevis that are to be held here shortly.

On Tuesday, 19th February, 2013, the candidate who will be representing the party in the important constituency of Central Basseterre will be made known to the hard working and proud people of the area, and the nation generally.

People’s Action Movement’s Leader, Hon. Shawn K. Richards has disclosed that the official public announcement will be made via the Facebook Page of the party:
http://www.facebook.com/PAM4Change . Members of the public and the media are therefore being invited to log on, and also “Like” the PAM Facebook Page, so that they are among the first to be informed when the name of the candidate is announced at 8:00pm sharp.

Richards stated that this new approach is indicative of the innovative campaign approaches that will be obvious during the elections ahead and the decision to release the candidate via Facebook is also designed to ensure that tens of thousands of people at home and those overseas will be able to have immediate and equal access to the information at the same time.

The two term parliamentarian for the town of Sandy Point/Fig Tree said the future looks bright for his party and he is very excited about the candidate who has been selected. He added that the party is very proud to have had two capable prospective candidates participating in the now concluded "Primaries" and as such they are therefore very grateful to both Mr. Selwyn "Rusty" Liburd and Mr. Jonel Powell, for offering themselves as possible candidates.

Richards said he is very convinced that any one of the two candidates who participated in the Primaries held during the past couple months, between Liburd and Powell, will be a far better choice to represent the good people of Central Basseterre, especially when compared to the failures of the incumbent Labour representative who has largely ignored the needs of the electorate in the district.

The PAM leader was also reflective in his comments when he reminded that the decision to reveal the candidate on 19th February has a special significance to his party. It was the date on which, back in 1980, the people’s Action Movement was elected to government for the first time, under the leadership of Dr. The Right Honourable Sir Kennedy Alphonse Simmonds, the First Prime Minister of St. Kitts & Nevis. This was the historic day 33 years ago, when PAM, in unity with the Nevis Reformation Party, NRP, formed a new government to replace the Labour Administration of the late Sir Lee L Moore.

Now three decades later, PAM has again arrived at the historic date of 19th February, to begin the new crusade to replace another failed administration, this time, one led by a disastrous Prime Minister who has indebted his nation, sold off its lands to foreigners and imposed a painful lifestyle of economic misery and hardships, causing the poor to suffer under the burden of high taxes and low wages.

Richards has however promised that very soon those dark days now being experienced will be removed with a new government in the sunshine of prosperity and hope, packaged in a spirit of national unity, with all working together to achieve the promise of a better day.

Ahead of the big public announcement on facebook at 8:00pm on Tuesday night, a special meeting of the PAM’s Central Basseterre Constituency Branch will be held at PAM Headquarters, at 7:00 pm. However, all members of PAM are invited to attend to help welcome the newest candidate of the party.
