SKNYPA partners with the Brimstone Hill Society in its History and Heritage Month Celebrations

Press Release

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, February 20th, 2013  --  The St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association (SKNYPA) in collaboration with the Brimstone Hill Society presents a History and Heritage Digital Photo competition, dubbed “Capture It” as part of the Brimstone Hill’s annual History and Heritage Month of Activities. The photo competition is being carried out in addition to a ‘History and Heritage Question and Answer’ Corner via SKNYPA’s Facebook fan page.

PRO, Azuree Liburd stated that, SKNYPA continues to recognize the importance of our federation’s history and heritage especially when mass media threatens to erode such aspects of our culture in an ever advancing world. Also, having regard to the fact that youth comprise the majority of the population, attempts to preserve the culture of St Kitts & Nevis as well as ensure the sustainability of our tourism industry, will of necessity have to embrace  youth involvement.

Accordingly, SKNYPA has again this year, partnered with the Brimstone Hill Society History and Heritage Committee, and in that regard, is  hosting a ‘digital photo competition’ and  a Facebook History and Heritage ‘question and answer’ Corner. The photo contest will allow youth through the ages of 13 – 30 years to express their creativity through photography  with the use of tools readily available to them, such as digital cameras, mobile cameras etc. However, the Facebook Q & A’s will be open to the general public. There will be many attractive prizes to be won.

The competition requires entrants to take two (2) photos:
    • 1ST Photo – natural feature or historical monument found on the island

    • 2nd Photo- scene including two or more persons exhibiting values our society deem important.

Each photo is required to have a four word caption and there is to be a description with a maximum of 50 words, to connect both photos. Entries must be submitted to sknypa@yahoo.com on or before Friday 1st March, 2013.

The Association wishes to thank Harper’s Office Depot and Brimstone Hill Society for sponsoring prizes for the Digital Photo Competition, prizes such as: a Kindle, a Digital Camera and Portable Entertainment Devices. SKNYPA also thanks the TDC Group of Companies for sponsoring the Facebook ‘Question and Answer’ prizes which include dinner for two at OTI, toaster oven, printer and shoppers’ vouchers. SKNYPA takes this opportunity to congratulate the TDC Group of Companies on its 40th Anniversary and wishes the TDC Group continued success. SKNYPA is indeed pleased that the Business Community has joined in efforts at recognizing the importance of the nation’s history, heritage and culture.
