BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party is expected to announce new candidates for the next General Elections which could possibly include female representation.

Senator Nigel Carty made the revelation while speaking on the weekly Freedom FM daily ‘Issues’ programme on Tuesday (Feb. 18).

He was asked by host Juni ‘Big JL’ Liburd if the Labour Party would be introducing new candidates in Constituencies Three and Seven of which resigned Deputy Prime Minister Sam Condor and fired Senior Minister Dr. Timothy Harris are the elected Parliamentary Representatives, respectively.

“You certainly will be seeing new candidates for the St. Kitts -Nevis Labour Party…not only in those two constituencies but in other places as well.

“We are about putting a competent, attractive slate of candidates to the electorate. We believe the people of St. Kitts deserve the very best that this country has to offer and we have been looking keenly at some young bright people.”

Carty indicated that the Party wants females as candidates among the eight-member team selected to contest the General Elections.

“We want women to be included and, if they would step forward, we would want to ensure that they have a good chance of being selected by the Party to be part of the platform. Because the issues that confront us as a people require that we have young people…not so young people. That we have men and women of all professions really putting their heads together attest to resolve the issues that we face at this time.”
