Sustainable Communities – All-Five-Parishes

    CHARLESTOWN Nevis, February 25th, 2013   --   The Nevis Disaster Management Department in collaboration with Hope Nevis Inc. has embarked upon a project entitled "Sustainable Communities". This initiative is an OAS Sponsored Project that is scheduled to be rolled out in ALL five parishes on Nevis commencing on Monday March 11th2013.

     

    This project is being spearheaded by the non-governmental organization (NGO) HOPE NEVIS Inc. in collaboration with the Nevis Disaster Management Department and the Physical Planning, Natural Resources and Environment Offices.

     

    The project commences with training a minimum of 20 persons from the parish of St. Thomas in Community Emergency Response Team Training. This training is open to both male and female of any age category.

     

    Training sessions will commence at 6p.m. nightly at the Jessup Community Centre with topics that include:

     

    • First Aid and CPR
    • Fire Safety
    • Light Search and Rescue
    • Emergency Shelter Management
    • Vector Control
    • The Dangers of Sand Mining
    • Gender Issues

    The project will commence in the parish of St. Thomas and continue through to the other parishes. In this regard, the NDMD is seeking assistance in conveying the above details to the general public via your media. Subsequent releases will become available as the project moves island wide.
