One badly injured in Conaree traffic accident

By: Jenise Ferlance, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A regular morning on the Island’s Main Road took an almost deadly turn when a car and truck collided, leaving one person badly injured and others suffering from cuts and bruises.

The traffic accident occurred shortly before 9:00 this morning (Feb. 26) in the vicinity of the Landfill in Conaree.

Upon arrival at the scene, SKNVibes observed an individual lying on the ground next to a stationary motorcar.

The front and rear ends of the car were badly damaged with the front bumper being completely removed from the body of the vehicle and the back being tucked into the wire fencing of the Conaree Landfill.

SKNVibes spoke with an individual who had witnessed the accident.

According to that person’s explanation, the motorcar was travelling in an easterly direction and the motor pickup truck was travelling in the opposite direction when the collision occurred.

The individual further explained that the motorcar – for some reason – was on the side of the oncoming pickup truck which led to it being struck. The impact forced the motorcar into the Landfill’s fence.

What was particularly traumatic – the eyewitness explained – was the sight of an individual being flung from one of the vehicles during the impact and subsequently learning that another was trapped in the car, bleeding profusely from his ears, nose and mouth.

SKNVibes understands that the car was being driven by a student of the Windsor University School of Medicine, within which were also other students of the learning institution; while the other vehicle was being operated by an employee of the Parks and Beaches Department.

That vehicle had also contained a number of employees of the Department.

All occupants of the car and a number of the Parks and Beaches workers were transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital via Emergency Medical Services for treatment.

The true extent of the injuries is not yet known but the Traffic Department has indicated that it is making investigations into the incident.
