BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN keeping with the annual acknowledgement of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the local Reach for Recovery support group has organised a solidarity walk tomorrow afternoon (Oct. 25), beginning at Upper Fiennes Avenue and ending with a short rally at the old Treasury building on the Bay Road.
The walk will begin at 4:30 p.m. and all members of the public are welcome to come out and show their support for the cause, marking another activity in what has been a month dedicated to heightening awareness about the disease.
On Friday, October 10 the St. Kitts-Nevis Breast Cancer Patients Assistance Fund was established with the aim of providing financial assistance to persons in St. Kitts and Nevis suffering from breast cancer, who satisfy a means test, to enable them to obtain necessary treatment including chemotherapy and radiation.
Dr. Cameron Wilkinson delivered two public lectures on various issues associated with breast cancer at ECCB and the Cayon Community Centre on Monday (Oct. 20) and Tuesday (Oct. 21) respectively.
Throughout the month, Reach for Recovery has been selling breast cancer paraphernalia including mouse pads, bandanas and plushies, with the proceeds to be used for funding their various endeavours. ~~Adz:Right~~
Agnes Farrell, founder and president of the support group is encouraging the public to “put on their walking shoes”, and noted that the walk would be a fun activity for those involved.
