Business as usual as 7,000 cruise passengers visit Wednesday, 17,000 for this week

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 7th 2013 (CUOPM) – It was business as usual in St. Kitts on Wednesday as three cruise ships docked in the town of Basseterre with over 7,000 passengers, bringing a total of 17,000 for this week.
     
    Taxi-men and women, tour operators,  stores and other related business such as restaurants, bars and shops, in Basseterre and around St. Kitts, scores of visitors who came ashore.
     
    The 7,081 cruise passengers on Wednesday were from the 3,046 passenger capacity Celebrity Reflection, which arrived from St. Maarten with 3,081 passengers; the 4,370-passenger capacity, Independence of the Seas, which arrived from St. Maarten with 3,806 passengers and the 200-passenger capacity Seabourne Legend with 194 passengers.
     
    Most of the 7,000 passengers came ashore aand went on sight-seeing tours in Basseterre and island wide via the St. Kitts Scenic Railway, buses or taxis. Hundreds went to Brimstone Hill, sea and sun bathing on the beaches, snorkeling, sailing to Nevis, horseback riding, golfing, casino gambling, shopping and biking while others took time to surf the internet and make contact with friends and family.
     
    On Tuesday, 4,814 cruise passengers visited on two ships – the 3,114-passenger capacity Adventure of the Seas with 3,343 passengers and the 1,506-passenger capacity, Thomson Dream with 1,471 passengers.
     
    The 2,450-passenger capacity Celebrity Summit visited with 2,166 passengers on Monday and the 3,100-passegnger capacity Emerald Princess with 3,038 passengers on Sunday.
     
    On Friday, the 3,700-passnger capacity Carnival Valor berths at Port Zante.
     
    Next week, the parade of cruise ships to Port Zante continues with 10 scheduled ship calls with an estimated 15,800 passengers onboard.
