17 others plead guilty to traffic offences
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AMONG those who were appeared before the Basseterre Traffic Court last Thursday (Mar. 7) was Vernon Henderson – whose charges stemmed from his dishonest use of a licence sticker he had removed from one vehicle for use on another.
Information which the Traffic Department had given to this media house – and which was carried in a previous article – stated that the Dieppe Bay man had removed a licence sticker from a government vehicle and mounted it on the front windscreen of HA69, his motor Omni bus.
The Traffic Department was alerted of this when Henderson went there to request a replacement sticker for the government vehicle. Reportedly, the reason forwarded by Henderson did not sit well with the officers and investigations revealed that the sticker which was issued for the government vehicle was affixed to his omnibus’ windscreen.
Having appeared before Her Worship Simone Bullen-Thompson, he pleaded guilty to driving an unlicenced vehicle and fraudulently using a licence sticker. He was fined $400 to be paid in one month or one month in prison on the former charge, and $150 on the latter charge, which is to be paid in one week or serve one day in prison.
The offences were committed on January 28, 2013.
Several other individuals who appeared before Her Worship also pleaded guilty to the offences with which they were charged and were fined in accordance.
Fiona Etebu of Frigate Bay was cautioned for committing March 1, 2013 offences of driving an unregistered vehicle, driving an unlicenced vehicle and driving without a valid driver’s licence.
Michael ‘DJ Fresh’ Duggins of Lime Kiln – for the offence of parking in a no-parking area - was fined $100 to be paid forthwith or, in default, serve three days at Her Majesty’s Prison.
The offence was committed on November 3, 2012.
Tabernacle resident, St. Lloyd Bloice was issued a $100 fine for failing to bring vehicle to a complete shop at a stop sign. The offence was committed on November 9, 2012 and he has three days to pay the fine.
Keys Village resident Raphael Daniel was cautioned for using obscene language.
For driving without due care and attention on September 14, 2012, Esther Benjamin of Lozack Road was cautioned.
Imran Harvey has four months in which to pay fines totalling $1 600 in fines. The fines were issued after he pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention and driving when not covered by insurance. Failure to pay the sum within a specific period of time would result in the imposition of custodial sentencing.
Taylors Housing Project resident Wayne Allen was fined $600 for a January 15, 2013 offence of driving without due care and attention.
He was fined a further $400 for driving without a driver’s licence and $1 200 for driving without insurance. Additionally, he was disqualified from holding a driver’s licence for a two-month period. These offences were committed on October 27, 2012.
Tucket Street, Ponds Pasture resident Ricky Peets was fined $1 000 for driving without insurance and was cautioned for driving without a valid driver’s licence.
The offences were committed on May 23, 2012.
For picking up passengers in an area not designated for that purpose, Elroy Stevens of Keys was issued a $100 fine which was to have been paid forthwith or, in default, serve three days behind bars.
Water Works, Cayon resident Dion Toussaint was fined $500 for driving without due care and attention. He has two months in which to pay the fine.
Also charged with driving without due care and attention was Livingston Francis of Cayon, who was ordered by the court to pay a $600 fine. The offence was committed on December 21, 2011.
Vincent Pemberton of Upper Thibou Avenue, Basseterre, for dropping off passengers in an area which was not designated for that purpose, was fined $100 which was to have been paid forthwith or serve three days in prison.
Kirby Samuel of Conaree was cautioned for a July 16, 2012 offence of driving without due care and attention.
Royston Rogers of Sandy Point has a $600 fine to pay, having pleaded guilty to a January 21, 2013 incident of driving without due care and attention.
Conaree’s Melissa Moore has two months to pay a $600 fine which the court imposed for committing an October 11, 2012 of driving without due care and attention offence.
Everson Seabrookes of Needsmust Estate was fined $1 000 for driving without insurance and $400 for driving with an expired licence. The offences were committed on November 20, 2012.
Oto-Obong Akpan of Shaw Avenue is expected to pay a fine of $500 within two month, having pleaded guilty of a July 27, 2012 offence of driving without due care and attention.
