Shane Venner stars as Development Bank Premier League match produces two ton makers

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (March11, 2013) -- Shane Venner showed a touch of brilliance Sunday (March 10) when his team the St. Kitts Cricket Association (SKCA) Development Team beat Basseterre Zone Team by a first innings decision at a thrilling Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis Premier Cricket League 2013 match played at the Conaree Cricket Grounds.

     

    The two-day match started on Saturday when SKCA Development Team won the toss and sent Basseterre Zone Team to bat first. However due to inclement weather the match’s first inning had to be carried over to Sunday where Basseterre Zone Team made 285 for 8 (declared) off 60 overs.

     

    In reply, SKCA Development Team, which is coached by former test player Nevisian Keith Arthurton, made 302 for 3 (declared) off 50 0vers. Darren Hobson made 136 runs off 108 balls with 13 boundaries and 6 sixes, three of which saw the ball fly over the perimeter wall with one lost not to be retrieved. He was however caught at deep-mid on by Rahat Mirza from a Junie Mitcham bowling.

     

    Star of the match was Shane Venner, who came in after Letania Ferdinand fell for a duck when the score was still at zero, making 151 not out off 108 balls with 21 boundaries and three sixes. When his team bowled, he took one wicket for 57 off 13. Their second wicket partnership (with Hobson) produced 243 runs.

     

    In bowling department, SKCA Development Team’s Leacheiam Phipps terrorised the opposition by taking 5 wickets for 70 off 15. 

     

    Scorers on the Basseterre Zone Team were Welton Edwards (0), Tashmial Mills (7), Rahat Mirza (28), Larry Audain (78), Jeremiah Louis (48), Junie Mitcham (38), Calvin Williams (12), Kareem Kelly (11), Kevin Jaundoo (0), Jerrilius Louis (1 not out), and Kareem Hanley (60 not out).

     

    SKCA Development Team bowling: Cameron Pennyfeather (1 for 43 off 11), Tristan Hanley (2 for 83 off 16), Leacheiam Phipps (5 for 70 off 15), and Shane Venner (1 for 57 off 13).

     

    Others batting for the SKCA Development Team were Glenston Patrick (7), and Cameron Pennyfeather (1 not out).

     

    The Basseterre Zone Team bowling: Jeremiah Louis (1 for 33 off 5), Junie Mitcham (2 for 70 off 16). Umpires for the match were Carlton Browne and Eardley Nisbett, while the scorer was Leanne Walters.

     

    The second match between Rural East Zone Team and Rural West Zone Team to have been played at Molineaux was rained out and did not bowl off.
