AG Hamilton hopeful of contesting Number Three Seat

Attorney-General Hon. Jason Hamilton

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THERE is a process which he would have to first go through to be selected as a candidate for the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), but recently-appointed Attorney-General for St. Kitts-Nevis the Hon. Jason Hamilton has made known his intention of contesting the next general elections on that party’s ticket.

Speaking last week on FreedomFM’s ‘Freedom Talk’ programme, Hamilton officially announced his intentions and made known the process he must undergo before he could be officially named the candidate for the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party for St. Christopher Three.

“A determination hasn’t been made on that matter yet, but it is my intention to be the candidate for the Labour Party in West Basseterre in the next election. There is a process that the party has in place where the branch submits a short list of names to the national executive and that is then sent on to another committee where the recommendations are made, and that is my hope.”

Should Hamilton be selected to contest the next general elections in St. Kitts and Nevis in that constituency, he would be running against Sam Condor - the current Parliamentary Representative for the area; an individual whose political campaign he has previously managed.

Condor has served as the constituency representative for that area since 1989.

When the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party was elected to office in 1995, he proceeded to serve as Deputy Prime Minister until weeks ago when the disparity in ideologies between himself and Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas prompted him to tender his resignation.

While he had not indicated under which ticket he intends to contest the elections, Condor had indicated to this publication that while he has life and health, he would be contesting.

As for Hamilton, he has indicated his willingness to serve the people “if they want me to serve (and) in any capacity that they ask me to”.
