BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A 20-year-old man was recently fined and jailed while his juvenile accomplice was fined and ordered flogged for stealing from a yacht that was berthed in the Basseterre Harbour.
According to a police release, Javel Bassue and a juvenile, both of Irish Town, Bay Road in Basseterre, had allegedly swam out to the yacht and stole a quantity of goods.
They were jointly charged with larceny and found guilty of the crime.
Bassue was fined EC$2 700 to be paid forthwith, but was unable to do so and was sentenced to serve three months at Her Majesty’s Prison.
The juvenile was also fined a similar amount and ordered to receive eight strokes with a tamarind rod.
Restitution of the stolen goods were made to the virtual complainant who tahnked the Federation’s criminal justice system.
And according to the release, Commissioner of Police Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn, “who supports not sparing the rod and spoiling the child”, said that he would like to see more use of the rod being ordered by the Court.
