BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 13th 2013 – The phrase “a heart to God and a hand to man” perhaps best epitomises the Antioch Baptist Church and was often quoted by the church’s founder and first pastor, the late Dr William M Connor O.B.E. The phrase speaks to the fact that, inherent within its theological underpinnings, the church believes that “man is more than a soul, he has a stomach bag” and from its very inception the Antioch Baptist Church sought to live out these words through a number of social outreach ministries.
As part of its 50th Anniversary celebrations and during the past week the church was host to a team of missionaries from the First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls in Texas, USA. The team, headed by Pastor Mike Smith was comprised of twenty seven persons who formed the core of two dentals teams, two medical teams, one construction crew and one businessman who is a certified speaker, trainer and coach.
Whilst in the Federation the teams were engaged in a number of activities which included the complete refurbishing of the Accident and Emergency and Out Patients wing to the JNF Hospital, FREE dental and health screenings and medicals along with a number of instructional and lectures series for paramedics, EMS and other health professionals. In addition to these activities, certified speaker and business coach, Mr. Bobby Albert, held a number of speaking and training engagements on the subject of “Values Oriented Leadership” with various groups including the Nevis Sixth Form and the CFB Colleges; middle managers and supervisors of local businesses; the Rotary Club of Liamuiga and the officers and staff of the Antioch Baptist Church.
Meanwhile the Antioch Baptist Church wraps up a hectic two weeks of activities which included on Friday 8th a service dubbed the Parade of the Saints in recognition of the contributions made by the Baptist adherents who were instrumental in laying the foundation for the Baptist witness in the Federation. On Saturday 9th the church organised an impressive Jubilee Dinner and Awards banquet at the St. Kitts Marriott Hotel and drew close to three hundred persons in attendance, while on Sunday 10th the church held it’s Jubilee Service of thanksgiving which included the pastoral ordination of Bro. Ivor Keithley Phillip.
The next slated events on the calendar of its jubilee celebrations include a youth elocution contest and the dedication of the Dr William Connor Memorial Square.
