BASSETEERRE, St. Kitts - THE two Operation Rescue members who stood in silent protest on Friday (Mar. 15) were back in the vicinity of the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank (SKNANB) yesterday morning (Mar. 19) in a continued effort to urge the Speaker of the National Assembly to table the Motion of No Confidence.
With placards in hand sporting photos of the Speaker, local businessman Carlton Dupont and social commentator Washington 'Washie' Archibald stood in front of and on the opposite side of the SKNANB silently protesting against the Motion's delay and the allowance of the tabling of the Budget before the said Motion.
Speaking with Dupont, he passionately stated that the Hon. Curtis Martin is not fairly playing his role as Speaker of the National Assembly.
The businessman said that, in his opinion, the Speaker's role is being played by the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas from behind the scenes and that Martin is not leading Parliament according to the spirit of goodness.
"Well, we are trying to draw to the attention of the public that Curtis Martin is not doing a job that is worthy of him keeping the Speaker of the National Assembly. I believe that everything that Curtis Martin is doing is run by Dr. Douglas, and a Speaker of a National Assembly should not be taking anything at all from any Prime Minister of any country because the Speaker of the National Assembly should be working for all of us.
"Fairness for all of us and Curtis Martin, in my opinion and Washie's opinion, is not fit to be in Parliament as the Head of the House. However, the problem is nothing in this country we all know, according to the spirit of love and peace and happiness, we cannot boast that Curtis Martin is helping us toward that end - peace and the spirit of goodness.
"If Curtis Martin knew anything about the spirit of goodness, he would bring the Vote of No Confidence which is the only thing the public and the Opposition have in their favour compared to the millions of things the Prime Minister has in his corner. And so Curtis Martin does not deserve to be the Speaker of the National Assembly; his behaviour is awful."
Dupont went on to state that he would be outside of the Bank on a daily basis as long as his Operation Rescue colleague is there, noting that the protest would very much be effective.
"I will be here as long as Washie is going to be here. I have my store to look after but I want people in this country to understand the sacrifice that I am making...doing this is for the generation to come so that our country will be stable and we will have men of class; so when people get job like Curtis Martin they will do it with class, that's why I'm here.
"For us it will be effective. We are hoping, because we don't know what people are thinking out there, that people will see this as something good and to show people that democracy is still on the move if you want it. It is within us but we have to reach for it.”
Dupont said so far no one has spoken against their protest and some people hadr "whisper to me that they like what I am doing", and this is done because they cannot speak out.
He further stated that the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has a "Mickey Mouse", in that the nation's freedom is false.
"Dr. Douglas speaks of freedom and democracy, Dr. Douglas knows nothing of freedom and democracy. It's not real freedom...it's all false. When you hear Dr. Douglas talking in this country it is falsehood and he is the biggest liar in this country," Dupont said.
Filed by the Opposition in early December 2012, the Motion of No Confidence has been one of the most talked about topics in the Federation, and while businesses, community groups and individuals have been calling for the Motion to be tabled, no date as to when it would be brought to Parliament has been given.
