BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – EMBATTLED Parliamentary Representative of Constituency Three, the Hon. Sam T. Condor officially announced that while he offers himself as a candidate for that constituency, he could not do so “under the present Labour Party Leadership”.
Elected to public office as a representative for that constituency (Basseterre West) in 1989, Condor has campaigned and served under the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) banner until recent publicly-manifested rifts between himself and the party’s leader and Prime Minister of the Federation, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, led to him tendering his resignation from Dr. Douglas’ Cabinet.
Condor contends that Dr. Douglas’ ideologies are far removed from those on which the SKNLP was founded.
In an address to the nation today (Mar. 21) via FreedomFM, Condor, as he had previously indicated to this publication, offered himself for candidacy in Constituency Number Three.
He however said that his conscience – among other things – would not allow him to do so under the banner of the current leadership of the SKNLP.
“On behalf of the many whom I have been privileged to represent and all whose endorsement, support and prayers have sustained me, and in deference to the sacred oath which I have several times taken: “…to do right to all manner of people without fear, favour, affection or ill-will”, I will once again present myself as the candidate in Constituency Number Three.
“I cannot however in good conscience, in fear of my God, in fairness to the vast majority of our citizens, in keeping with my own ideals and philosophy, and in the traditions of true Labour, do so under the present Labour Party Leadership.
Emphatically, he expressed that he is “devoutly Labour and the principles and values I espouse shall continue to be authentically Labour”.
Condor did not indicate under what banner he would be contesting the next General Elections and had indicated to this media house that he is in discussion with his constituents on that matter.
