By: SKNIS, Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 25th 2013 (SKNIS) - A group of enthusiastic student athletes from Parkside School, in Surrey, United Kingdom will spend the next two weeks in St. Kitts and Nevis enjoying friendly competition and learning a bit about the culture and history of the twin-island Federation.

The 17 students aged 12 and under, accompanied by three teachers and other family members, arrived on March 23 to participate in football and cricket matches. These will be played against primary school students utilizing facilities at Verchilds, Molineaux, Conaree, Newtown and the premier Warner Park stadium.

The visit was organized by Kittitian Vicki Cramer-Blair.

“Every two years they travel to the Caribbean for a sports tour and I thought instead of them going to Barbados which they typically do, I would like to bring them to St. Kitts and expose them to the beautiful island and the place that I [was] born and raised,” she stated. “In 2010, we brought down 71 on the tour and this year we have 55 persons.”

Ms. Cramer-Blair added that the group first visited St. Kitts in 2010. She explained that the group seeks to give back to the country they visit.

“We have done a lot of fundraising in the last year and we are going to [donate the funds] to a couple charities in St. Kitts,” she revealed, adding that they made a similar donation to Addie’s Place in Greenlands on the previous visit.

During rest period on this tour, the group is expected to engage in island tours, a catamaran cruise and other fun filled activities. They are also expected to meet with the Minister of Tourism Honourable Richard Skerritt. The group leaves island on April 6.
