BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – HEAD COACH of the victorious Washington Archibald High School (WAHS) at the recently concluded TDC Inter-School Championships declared that the victory was dedicated to the hard work displayed by students of the learning institution.
Speaking to SKNVibes following his team’s victory on Sunday evening (Mar. 24), Head Coach Donnel Esdaile expressed his delight at winning the Championships.
“I am feeling elated. I am happy for the children. They worked hard this year and we went through a lot of issues earlier with injuries but, the children, they really worked hard and I am very proud and happy for them.”
He revealed some of the challenges they encountered in their preparation leading up to the Championships.
“A number of athletes were injured and we lost couple top athletes through disciplinary reasons, but we held the faith, restrategise and tried to see if we can come out in different events…and they did well.”
Esdaile gave his views on the competition they faced at the meet.
“It was very close! I thought it would have been tighter, but I can’t say that I was too concerned at any time. We had to stick to the strategy and stick to the plan…that was the key. And they stuck to the plan and brought it through.
“This was really for the children and all the coaches and teachers are really proud of them.”
Athletes of Washington Archibald High proved this past weekend that their school is the best at athletics in St. Kitts and Nevis, as the learning institution emerged victorious at the 2013 TDC Inter-School Championships for the third consecutive year.
The three-day Championships, which ended on Sunday at the Silver Jubilee Stadium, saw ‘Washie Wildcats’ being crowned champions beating arch rivals Basseterre High School into second place.
Eleven schools participated in the Championships.
