BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TRUTH be told, in the four years she has been working at Kajola Kristada, she never thought that she could have ever won an Employee of the Month Award. Nonetheless, Desiree Powell continued delivering her best and was recently named Employee of the Month for February 2013.
Recounting the moments leading to receiving the good news, Powell told SKNVibes that she was at her workstation on the Super Trap Line when she was told to report to the office. Not sure of the reason, the first thought she entertained was, “What did I do wrong?”
“But when I went to the office, Malvie started asking me if I knew about the Employee of the Month programme and I told her yes. I still wasn’t aware of what was going on. Then she told me I am the Employee of the Month for February and I was in shock.”
Powell said her shock was coupled with excitement and happiness, especially since she did not expect to win the award.
“Thanks to God Almighty who made it all possible.I enjoy doing my work at Kajola and it has been a pleasure working here.”
Powell said she had already informed her daughter of her success and that the four-year-old has already congratulated her and gave her seal of approval.
She reiterated that although she did not think her winning the Award was possible, she continued to do her work well.
Powell noted that had she not continued to perform in that vein, she would not have won the Award.
“For me, I used to say I would never win it and I used to think I would never win it. But I would tell persons who are thinking the same way to keep coming to work regularly, try and meet your target, do your work and just have faith that one of these days you will win it if you just keep up to the standard that you are supposed to be up to.”
