BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, April 3rd 2013 (CUOPM) – Despite the challenges, St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said his governing Labour Party remains determined to move the twin-island nation forward.
“This is a real testament of how the country is moving forward. Despite the many challenges, the country is moving on. The country is moving strong and the country will continue to move in this positive direction because of the determination of this administration,” said Prime Minister Douglas in brief remarks at a ceremony marking the end of phase one and the start of phase two of the Agro-Tourism project at Sir Gilles.
Pointing to the Federation’s continued growth in the tourism and hospitality sector, Prime Minister Douglas said all efforts must be made to ensure that there is continued attention to the growth and upkeep of the tourism plant and that nationals and visitors eat locally-grown fruits and vegetables.
He referenced the recent regional conference on bi-diversity held here in St. Kitts.
“When we were at the cocktails, I was asked a question from our visitors as to whether the fruits that were being served last night were local fruits and I said with pride, ‘yes,’ all of these fruits you are seeing here are local fruits except one and those were the foreign imported grapes that was part of the menu last night,” said Dr. Douglas.
The following morning during a breakfast at Ottley’s Plantation Inn, Prime Minister Douglas noted the transformation of the property, home of one of the oldest restaurants.
“This morning I travel here after having breakfast in that setting, looking over the Atlantic Ocean from the balcony of that hotel, discussing specifically what the Kittitian Hill Resort Development will be looking like in the next few months, when hopefully in November we would have opened that facility. And now I am here at this spot,” Dr. Douglas said.
“I make mention of the fruits and the setting where I had breakfast this morning because I believe that when this project would have been at its full realisation, we would not only be happy to have breakfast on Ottley’s and at Kittitian Hill, but we will also be having breakfast here at the Agro-Tourism Demonstration Project Farm in Sir Gillies,” said Prime Minister Douglas, who pointed with pride that the variety of fruits provided at the event were all locally grown.
