BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AFTER  sterling performances at the 2013 CARIFTA Games in The Bahamas, members of the St. Kitts-Nevis team returned to their homeland to the warm greetings from St. Kitts Amateur Athletic Association, media officials and family members.

The nine-member team arrived at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport yesterday afternoon (Apr. 3) where a welcoming ceremony was held at the VIP Lounge.

The team, which left for The Bahamas last week, won two bronze medals over the Easter weekend and a number of athletes achieved new personal best in their respective events.

Speaking at the ceremony, Public Relations Officer of the SKNAAA, Evris Huggins described the team’s performance as heroic and hailed the members as great ambassadors of the Federation.

“We are quite proud that most of you achieved your personal mark and we understand that you had to compete in some terrible conditions. I just want to say welcome home and congratulations to you on your outstanding performances.”

Team Manager Osdel ‘Scotty’ Hanley stated that they are quite happy with the overall performance of the team and he also commended the athletes for their behaviour throughout the Games.

“The team itself, I told you that they were one of the best teams that I have travelled with in terms of their attitude and behaviour, and were also happy with their performance.”

Head Coach Donnel Esdaile, too, stated that he was very happy with the performance of all the athletes.

“I think they went out there and did their best and did St. Kitts and Nevis proud. We are so happy that they performed despite whatever circumstances. The future looks bright for St. Kitts and Nevis and looks bright for all these athletes.”

Medalist Adrian Williams, in a brief statement, thanked all who supported him throughout the competition, while Krystal Liburd, in her debut, said that she felt proud of herself in winning a medal for her country.
