Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, April 03rd, 2013; ANOS VALE – Hosts Saint Vincent and the Grenadines lost to Dominica by seven wickets on the opening day of the 2013 Windward Islands Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the Anos Vale Cricket Ground.
With the innings tottering at 39 for four, Delron Douglas strode to the wicket and took the attack to the opposition in a brutal display of hitting, despite the regularity of wickets continuing to fall.
He cut, pulled, and drove the ball to all parts of the outfield, but none of his colleagues possessed the same level of confidence that he did, helping the hosts recover from 39 for six.
Wickets fell at 4, 22, 25, 39, 39, 39, 69, 99, 117, and all out for 135 in 45.1 overs; the highest score being Douglas with 62. The next best individual score by a batter was 08 by Kerwin Williams as no the Dominican attack never let up on the pressure.
However, extras contributed healthily to the final score with 33 made up of 5 leg-byes, 22 wides, and 6 no-balls.
Lee Louisy was the pick of the bowlers with three for 37 off 9 overs, Maldini Poyer one for 10 in 6.1 overs, Deon Destouche one for 13 off two, Daneal Dupigny one for 19 off 7, and Kerwin Dupigny one for 16 off 7.
In their turn at the wicket, the Dominicans needed only 33.1 overs to knock off the required runs, reaching 137 for three, with Aulick Athanaze remaining 27 not out, and Devonte Williams 25 not out.
The classy left-hander Leic Charles who impressed many with his strokeplay in his stay at the crease scored 24, but it was extras which top-scored in the Dominican innings with 44 – 2 byes, 1 no-ball, and 41 wides.
Delorn Douglas showed his all-round skills taking one for 21 off four overs, Erwin Williams 1 for 17 off 5 overs, and Shane Roberts 1 for 23 off seven.
Meanwhile over at the Anos Vale 2 Grounds, defending champions kept cool heads to inflict a 59-run defeat with 13.2 overs to spare. This was not the expected result when Nick Elibox pounded the Grenada attack into seemingly submission before he was dismissed for 64.
An early loss of the first wicket did put the Saint Lucians on the backfoot, but that feeling of loss quickly dissipated as the tall attractive stroke-maker, rendered the Spice bowling tasteless.
From one without a run on the board, to 84 for two, Saint Lucia was cruising, but then the engine spluttered and then died as wickets fell with embarrassing regularity.
It was soon 85 for 3, 85 for 4, 102 for 5, 107 for 6, 117 for 7, 129 for 9, and all out for 132.
The only other individual double figure score was 15 by Denzel James, as the rest of the score looked like a Middle East telephone number.
Extras were 28 made of 19 wides, three leg-byes, and six byes as the Grenadian bowlers bowled a reasonably good length, allowing the mistakes to be made by their counterparts once Elibox was dismissed.
Narum Singh took three for 20, Johann Jeremiah two for 07, Calvin Blache two for 32, Ricardo Hall one for 16, and Ishmael Lett one for 25.
Earlier Saint Lucia won the toss and inserted the Grenadians and soon had success; the first wicket falling with the total on 22.
The diminutive Emmanuel Stuart held the Grenada innings together with a sublime knock of 81, laced with 11 beautiful boundaries as none of his fellow batters reach double figures; Donald McDonald the only one to do so with 10.
Wickets fell at one for 22, two for 53, three for 84, four for 135, five 151, six for 175, seven for 180, eight for 181, nine for 190, all out for 191.
Extras contributed 48 to the Grenada innings made up of four no-balls, one leg-bye, one bye, and 42 wides. Johnnel Eugene took four for 25, Jervel Tobierre and Ned Modeste each took one for 20, Nick Elibox one for 11, Keeghan Patrick one for 27, and Noah Sonson one for 37 in the final Grenadian total which were gettable at just under an asking rate of four an over but the former champions stumbled in the chase.
