Basseterre, St. Kitts (June 01, 2005): A Junior Minister of Tourism for St. Kitts will be chosen on Thursday to participate in the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) Youth Congress.
The minister will be selected from candidates from the six high schools on island. The Convent, Sandy Point, Verchilds, Basseterre, Cayon and Washington Archibald High representatives will compete for the junior minister post at a national tourism youth congress slated for the Newtown Community Centre. The event begins at 10:00 a.m.
An official for the St. Kitts Tourism Authority indicated that the successful candidate will be chosen via an effective speaking roundtable discussion. Students will present their perspective on the promotion of responsible tourism and the associated careers in the sector.
Educators, past and present, Linkon Maynard, Gwendolyn Nisbett and Wanda Hughes will judge candidates on presentation style, relevance of points and logical development among others.
The successful student will go on to attend the October 25th regional CTO Youth Congress scheduled for St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. They will meet with representatives from the region, they will visit a number of historic and cultural sites, and they will have a chance to participate in some sessions of the CTO conference, the official said. It is really a good experience for them because they get to learn more about tourism.
