Harris concerned about his safety but refuses to live in fear Says no weapon formed against him shall prosper!

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PARLIAMENTARY REPRESENTATIVE for St. Christopher Seven, the Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris declared that he has serious concerns about his safety and security but notwithstanding, his resolve is to not live a life of fear.

Dr. Harris was part of a press conference organised by himself and the five other elected Parliamentarians who forewent attending the April 9 Budget Presentation when he made the pronouncement.

“On the matter of security, yes, I am concerned for my security. And I ought to be seriously concerned about my security because we are dealing with a leader who does not care…and the language on his platform provokes and invokes nothing but evil. Is a language of divisiveness, it is a language of blood on their hands, it is a language of ‘I can incite’, it is a language as calling out to war.

“I would want to draw attention to the Commissioner of Police to take serious note of the rhetoric of the Prime Minister and the consequences for orderly conduct of people, particularly as we draw nigh to an election. I would want to draw the attention of the Commissioner of Police to the fact that in his records at the police station have formally made clear that threats against my person, threats to do me harm have been made and they have been reported. I am aware that the very person about whom those threats were made had subsequent to those threats been issued with a firearm. So I am concerned.”

Dr. Harris charged that floodlights which were mounted in the vicinity of his home have been removed under the Prime Minister’s direction; a situation which he said causes him some uneasiness.

“I am concerned when the Prime Minister directs the removal of floodlights from the vicinity where I live after there being there and had been put there not on request by me but by request by the police several years back. I am concerned…

“So I am very much concerned about security; and I should also be. Because, let’s bear in mind no matter talk about the significant reduction in homicides, and there has been, St. Kitts and Nevis – for the record – still has one of the highest per capita homicide rates in the Caribbean region.”

The former Minister of Government indicated his refusal to live a life of fear, especially since his belief rests in God.

“And while I am concerned – truthfully – I will not live my life in fear because I believe in a good God of mercy and of grace. And all these manifestations of evil that the Prime Minister would like to have pursued against Dr. Harris, they will come to naught because it is a promise that no weapon formed against me shall prosper.”
