Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Youth Hon. Sam Condor
Basseterre, St. Kitts (June 01, 2005):
Tuesdays Mayday Rally ushers in a new dawn, one filled with hope for the kind of social renaissance, renewal and reawakening necessary to create a platform for positive (youth) action.
Those were the words of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Youth Hon. Sam Condor during an address at the rally, which was held at the St. Georges Anglican Church Yard.

The rally was preceded by a march, which started from the Basseterre High School and drew participation from a wide cross section of persons from various segments of society.

The event was organized as part of the Community Outreach Project being implemented by Youth Impact Ministries.

Thank God for individuals and groups like Youth Impact Ministries who would ask, what can I do to help to restore our communities and our youths? Minister Condor stressed.

If our efforts at restoring our nations youth are to be effective & more of our time, energies and talents must be re redirected to strengthening the family; an institution so vital and critically important to the creation of a well ordered society. This I want to suggest is an imperative.

The deputy prime minister added that as minister (of youth), I am fully awakened to the responsibilities of the Ministry and Government. Through the Department of Youth, opportunities abound to enable all of our young people full participation in all aspects of national development.

The several daily media acknowledgments and appeal, provides ample evidence. However, our youth appear not to be responding in sufficient numbers and with the degree of commitment and dedication required.

This however would not diminish our resolve to continue exploring all avenues, to recruit youth involvement and participation, said Minister Condor. I use the occasion of this national youth appeal to encourage maximum use of these opportunities. I am in total agreement with the organizers of this event. The time is now to rally together as one community, one nation, if we are to preserve the youth the future of our land.

Minister of National Security Hon. G. A. Dwyer Astaphan also attended the Mayday March and Rally. He explained that a nation does not fall when bad people do bad things, but when good people do nothing.  Minister Astaphan called on adults to turn off the television and talk to their children.

An appeal was also made for young people to reject drugs and violence and to avoid adopting harmful practices of foreign cultures. Live life to its fullest, Minister Astaphan told the large gathering of about 500 persons. Every day must mean something.
