BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, April 12th,  2013 (CUOPM) – Cuban trained medical practitioner, Dr. Vance Gilbert told a mammoth political meeting of the governing St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party on Thursday night that he is ready to serve.

“I want you to know that I am ready to serve. I, Vance Sheldon Gilbert is ready to serve you in a different kind of leadership.... a leadership where I put everybody first, everybody second ...  I am ready and I have full confidence in Labour, full confidence in our Leader (the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas) and full confidence in you the people of this great country,” the charismatic Dr. Gilbert said to a thunderous round of applause and approval from the huge crowd as the rain fell.

“I am only here tonight to say one thing…I want the people of St. Kitts and Nevis to know, I want the people of this constituency to know, especially the people from Belle Vue where I used to go and carry my father’s lunch; the people of Tabernacle where I was born and raised; the people of Mansion, where my father was born; the people of Molineux, Phillips’ and Bourryeau where I went to church all my life at the Mount Caramel Baptist Church; the people of Lodge Village, Ottley’s and the Lodge Project,” said Dr. Gilbert, who is likely to be the St. Kitts-Nevis’ Labour Party candidate for St. Christopher 7 (Belle Vue to Ottley’s).

As Dr. Gilbert concluded his very brief public statement on a political platform, the heavens opened up and the rain poured denying Prime Minister and Labour Party National Political Leader, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, a chance to speak.

Responding to a caller on his weekly radio programme “Ask the Prime Minister,” Dr. Douglas said it was time for the people of St. Christopher 7 to benefit from a true and dedicated parliamentary representative.

“Who is Vance really? I believe she is referring to a young medical doctor, trained in Cuba, by the name of Dr. Vance Gilbert. He was born in the tiny, nestled village of Tabernacle. Dr. Vance Gilbert, his name has emerged recently as one of the potential candidates for Labour in Constituency #7, but at the moment is being held in Parliament by Dr. Timothy Harris.

This caller is saying that she cannot wait for the day, when the launching of Vance will take place. I too can’t wait for that day, because I believe it will be a day of rejoicing, jubilation, happiness and gladness. I am sure it will be a day when the people of Tabernacle would be so proud; the people of Belle Vue, Mansions, Christ Church, Molineux, Phillip’s, Bourryeau, Ottley’s, Lodge Project and Village will also be proud,” said Prime Minister Douglas.

Dr. Douglas noted that when the people of St. Christopher 7 have shown their jubilation by electing Dr. Gilbert as their Parliamentary Representative, “they would have moved on from Dr. Harris who has turned his back on Labour, who has been one, sucking Labour’s breast for all these years. Now he has turned his back on Labour, and now the people are ready to turn their backs on him and move on to another representative."

“I believe the people are saying they can’t wait like this caller; they can’t wait for this day to take place. I hope that the people of Constituency #7 would be wise enough to choose a true man, a man who would befit what a true representative of the people would be and I believe from what they are saying Dr. Vance Gilbert will be that man,” Prime Minister Douglas said.
