BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MEDICAL PRACTITIONER Dr. Vance Gilbert made his debut appearance on the platform of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and signalled his preparedness to lead his constituency as the representative for the area.

The charismatic young doctor will seek to become the party’s successor for the constituency following fallout between current representatives Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris and party officials.

While introducing him to the hundreds of party supporters at a public meeting in Mansion last night (Apr. 11), Chairman of the event Dr. Asim Martin described him as the man he knows would replace Dr. Harris in that constituency for Labour.

While giving his inaugural address, Gilbert acknowledged the residents from the various communities within the constituency and proclaimed he was ready to serve.

“I am only here tonight to say one thing…I want the people of St. Kitts and Nevis to know, I want the people of this constituency to know, especially the people from Belle Vue, where I used to go and carry my father’s lunch; the people of Tabernacle, where I was born and raised; the people of Mansion, where my father was born; the people of Molineux, Phillips’ and Bourryeau, where I went to church all my life at the Mount Caramel Baptist Church; the people of Lodge Village, Ottley’s and the Lodge Project,” said Dr. Gilbert, who is likely to be the St. Kitts-Nevis’ Labour Party candidate for St. Christopher Seven.

“I want you to know I am ready. I, Vance Sheldon Gilbert, is ready, ready to serve you with a different kind of leadership where I would put everybody first, everybody second and everybody last. I am ready full confidence in Labour…full confidence in the Labour team.”

In an interview with SKNVibes last month, Dr. Gilbert explained that while he understands there is a process through which he has to go before being selected as the candidate, he plans on representing the people of St. Christopher Seven.

He said his decision is “based on everything that is going on in the political arena”.

He explained that one of his first orders of business, should he be selected as the Constituency’s Labour candidate and should he win his seat, is to “try to bridge some of the divide that we have in the present political climate especially. There has been a lot of disunity amongst the people, a lot of anger, a lot of frustration among the people. And even on the community level people are not talking to each other because they support a political party, and things like that.”
