Early Childhood Educators Held to High Standards

~~Adz:Right~~ Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 03, 2008 (SKNIS):
The resourcefulness and creativity of Early Childhood Educators in St. Kitts came to the fore on Friday with an exhibition of low and no cost materials which had been transformed into entertainment and learning tools for pre-schoolers.

The annual in-service training workshop of the Early Childhood Development Unit culminated on Friday with the customarily remarkable display.

Early Childhood Coordinator Mrs. Vanta Walters said the quality of output by these teachers is just one aspect of the high standards to which they are held, in professionally carrying out their duties.

Mrs. Walters added that following this initial workshop, there will be training over a five week period for those who participated, to discuss pertinent issues in the program’s day to day operations at a more in-depth level.

Furthermore, implementation plans produced during the workshop must be implemented at the teachers’ respective centres and proven successful before the teachers are given certificates for successful completion of the course.

“When good in-service training is provided, workers are given the opportunity to increase their professionalism and to receive encouragement and emotional support from other teachers in their effort to implement the Early Childhood Education Model,” Walters said.

Thirty four participants from 25 nurseries in the Federation; 25 from St. Kitts and nine from Nevis, benefitted from the training which ran from October 20th - 30th .
