Cedric Liburd endorses Phillip for St. Christopher 4

Cedric Liburd

    Tells constituents to reject Grant

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FORMER Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Number Eight – Cedric Liburd – has thrown his support behind current Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Four – the Hon. Glen Phillip – for re-election to public office, and has advised constituents on reasons why they should reject his opponent Lindsay Grant of the People’s Action Movement (PAM).

Liburd appeared on the platform of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party on Sunday evening (Apr. 14) at a political meeting in Old road when he made the endorsement.

“We have seen Glenn ‘Ghost’ Phillip on the area of telecommunications. We have seen (him) at work; six thousand computers for your children all over this constituency and the teachers in the various schools. We say to you that Glenn is a good man and you must always make sure that you support a good man.”

In mounting a case before the constituents present at the event, the former Minister of Agriculture, Lands and Housing highlighted a number of reasons why they should make Phillip their preference over Grant.

He explained that just as Grant was discarded by the PAM over the Marriott/land deal scandal, so should the constituents of St. Christopher Four.

“But I want to say to you…that the people of this constituency must make sure that you reject the PAM candidate whenever the elections are called. Why I say that? Because Lindsay Grant was the PAM Leader for about two or three elections….and all of you know that leading up to the last general elections (he) wanted to give away our lands…in some sort of ‘bobol’ over in the Marriott…And because of that, PAM got rid of Mr. Grant as the Leader…If they get rid of Grant for what he did to PAM and to the country, do you think that the people of Old Road should vote for Grant?

“In other lands…when a man would have done that, his political life would have come to an end But…you the people of Old Road, you the people of this constituency will have to put an end to Mr. Grant.”

Liburd also recalled the situation in which five PAM candidates withdrew their support for Grant following the 2010 General Elections.

According to Liburd, the five were axed by Grant from the party for expressing their views. This – he suggested – is another reason why Phillip is the better choice of the two.

“...I want to say to you that after the last General Elections, five candidates of PAM recognised that Grant has done something wrong and they told him that he did something wrong…And what Grant did to them was to fire all five of them for something that he Grant did…Grant is still saying that the people of Old Road and the people of this constituency must support him in General Elections. I want the people of Old Road to continue to hold on, hold on to Glenn Ghost Phillip, the man who will make sure he improves the quality of life for the people of this constituency.”
