SKNABA suspends seven (7) players

By: SKNABA, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts Saturday 6th April 2013   --   The St. Kitts Nevis Amateur Basketball Association was forced to suspend seven (7) players for multiple violations that took place during a junior division basketball game Rams Hitters Jrs. versus Achievers Sports Club Jay Hawks.

The coaches and club officials of Marle Grant, Christopher Allen, Hosani Nichols, Bruce Alexander, Demeice Caines, Daryl Lewis and Tyrone Hutchinson were notified of pending suspensions for conduct unbecoming.

Marle Grant and Christopher Allen both of A. S. C. Jay Hawks at the end of regulation time began to fight amongst themselves. The officials of the Achievers Sports Club immediately requested that punishments be handed down quickly to their players as the altercation brought shame to their club and would not be tolerated.

The Games Committee along with the Achievers Sports Club has determined a three (3) game suspension and official apology letters be submitted from both players to officials of S. K. N. A. B. A and their teammates.

The specific discipline for players from the Harmonites Hitters Sports and Community Group (Rams Hitters) was determined after a thorough review of extensive evidence substantiated by multiple sources. Based on Rule #3 of the League Rules and Regulations players are subject to discipline when “Abuse of SKNABA Officials and

Referees” takes place. The punishment imposed today for such behavior is as follows:

    • Hosani Nicholls, Hitters Jrs. – “General Verbal Abuse to Desk Officials”-  2 games suspension
    • Bruce Alexander, Hitters Jrs. – “General Verbal Abuse to Referee” - 2  game suspension
“Taunting/Instigation of a fight” - player will be brought before the disciplinary committee
    • Demeice Caines, Hitters Jrs. – “General Verbal Abuse to Desk Officials” - 2 game suspension
“General Verbal Abuse to Referee” - 2 game suspension
“Attempt to Strike an Official” – 5 game suspension and a club fine of $500.00 XCD (Eastern Caribbean Currency)
“Striking an Official” -  automatic two (2) year suspension and a club fine of one thousand Eastern Caribbean dollars ($1,000.00)
Player will be brought before the Disciplinary Committee and faces a league suspension.
    • Daryl Lewis Hitters Premier – “General Verbal Abuse to Desk Officials” - 2 game suspension
    • Tyrone Hutchinson Hitters Premier – “General Verbal Abuse to Desk Officials” 2 game suspension
“Instigation of a fight” – player will be brought before the disciplinary committee.

Though it is unfortunate that such actions had to be taken it is the position of the Games Committee and the S. K. N. A. B. A. Executive to promote players safety, fair play, and the integrity of the game is adhered to and consistently enforced. The Disciplinary Committee will be convened as soon as all reports and testimonies are reviewed. The Games Committee does not want this issue to delay or prolong the effective running of the league.
