BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IT is always heartwarming to see youths within various communities coming together to achieve positive missions that can create a sense of civic mindedness and betterment in any given neighbourhood.

While on a recent visit to the McKnight community, SKNVibes was pleased to see an abandoned plot of land on Shaw Avenue that once ran wild with tall grass high bushes, which had been an eyesore to residents, totally cleaned up and transformed into a business entity.

Yes, a business entity called McKnight Car Washing Community Service which was established by a group of young men from that community.

Devon Ryan informed this media house that the all-male group consists of six members, aged 19 to 30 years, and that he was designated its Public Relations Officer.

He informed that the business was established in February this year following a plan which was to by all members of the group.

“We just trying to bring back the positivity and love that were lost in the community, and we are encouraging everyone to come out and give us their support,” Ryan said.

He recalled what state the plot of land was before and how the business idea came about.

“It (land plot) was deserted; nobody was using it. A lot of bush…we just take care of it and cleaned it up and decided that the most appropriate thing to put there is a car wash for now. We have other plans for the future but, for now, the car wash will do.”

When asked about progression of the business, Ryan said some people have been very supportive.

“Well, it going good so far; still can’t complain…you check? To say that we just started, it being going good so far. We are seeing some degree of progress and certain people have been very supportive of it.”

Ryan disclosed that most customers are from the McKnight community.

“And the community is really getting involved, which is a good sign. We’re glad for the community support.”

He is appealing to individuals outside of that community to patronise the business and help the young men to make better their lives.

“Just come around and everything would be good. I would just urge members of the public to come around and show their full support. Everything safe…you done know you have to start somewhere instead of not doing anything at all. We just trying to do something positive, so we’re just asking the public to come out and support the vibes. Just drive in and park your vehicle and you will get it washed and serviced.”

Besides Ryan’s post, another filled position in the group is that of Treasurer.

As understood, the group has established a fund to raise monies that would go towards other futuristic community-based projects.

“As I told you before, we’re looking to do bigger things in the future, but for now we’re just about collecting it and putting it to positive use still.”

Another member of the group, Bernell Whyte, shared his thoughts on the business project.

“I think it’s a very good thing that we’re doing. We’re just trying to do something constructive…something positive. So we just decided that a car wash would be something good to do in the community. We just want the community to continue to support us and everything is going to be alright.”
