By: Jenise Ferlance, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - IN an effort to bring awareness to the burning issues affecting people of the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, the People's Action Movement (PAM) would be hosting a Women and Youth Congress.

The Congress is scheduled for Sunday (Apr. 21) and will be hosted by the political party’s National Women's Group and the Young Pamites under the theme: "Empowering a nation in transition, tapping the leadership potential of women and youth for a better St. Kitts and Nevis".

It would be held at the Oojj's Commercial Complex in Campsm Bay Road from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

SKNVibes spoke with PAM's new Chairperson Cyndie Demming who gave details of what would take place at the Congress.

"We're going to have a keynote speaker to speak on the theme and then we will be breaking out into four different groups. And at the end of the group discussion they will come up with a declaration to bring forward on issues affecting women and youths."

Demming also gave details of what each group would be discussing.

Group One: To create a favourable environment in St. Kitts and Nevis that facilitates entrepreneurship among women and youth, such as Venture Capital, Angel Investors and Mentoring.

Group Two: To institutionalise mechanisms for life-long learning among citizens, including adult education programmes, re-tooling and re-training for jobs in the new services-driven economy, access to scholarships and internships.

Group Three: To facilitate a business and investment climate in St. Kitts and Nevis that is open to and representative of the participation of women and youth.

These include youth employment, youth and women’s representation on statutory boards, access to start-up capital from the local banking system and OECS business development mechanisms.

Group Four: To establish a systematic, reliable health care and holistic wellness programme that is responsive to the needs of women and youth.

Examples are promotion of healthy lifestyles in primary through tertiary educational institutions, health and wellness initiatives, diet and nutrition, women’s health issues, prevention of child molestation and human trafficking.

All women and youth are invited to partake in this event.

This Congress would be the first of its kind held by PAM and is expected to be an annual event.
