Young entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services at the annual Junior Achievement Trade Fair

Press Release

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, April 19th, 2013   --  Six secondary schools in St Kitts and Nevis will participate in the 2013 Junior Achievement (JA) Trade Fair which is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 26 at the Independence Square in Basseterre from 10:00am to 5:00 pm.

The Trade Fair is one of the high points of the students’ involvement in the JA Company Programme, an experience which they proudly share with their classmates, relatives, and the wider community.  The JA Company Programme requires third and fourth form students to propose business opportunities, start and operate a business, and submit a performance report at the end of the program.

The student companies are currently operating their businesses and are preparing to showcase and offer products and services for sale at the Annual Trade Fair. Some of the featured products this year include: jewellery, head bands, key rings, decorative broaches, wooden items and decorative flower pots.  The official ceremony begins at 10:00 am during which the Trade Fair will be declared open. The general public will be treated to a lunch time concert at 12:30 pm which will feature an array of talent from the participating schools.

The Platinum Sponsors for the 2012/2013 programme are the CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, and the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank, organisations that are represented on the Junior Achievement St. Kitts and Nevis Board of Directors.  These institutions and other business houses each year unwaveringly make significant contributions to the Junior Achievement Company Program.

The programme was introduced to St Kitts and Nevis in 2004 by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) in collaboration with the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Ministry of Education, and other public and private sector organisations.
