    April 22, 2013  --  THE United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Sub-regional Office for Barbados and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), will on Thursday and Friday host the Finals, Expo and Award Ceremony of the Caribbean Innovation Challenge (CIC) at the Hilton Resort in Barbados.

     

    During the Finals, 20 teams, selected from among 493 participants, will have the unique opportunity to showcase and present their projects to international and regional business experts during the final stage of judging. These finalists will also be able to meet potential partners and investors who will have a chance to offer additional support to develop their businesses.

     

    Kittians, Kai’Jana Henry, Dennis Mc Call Jr, Adielle Chiverton, Sanai Huggins, Jenee Williams, Jaleel Grant, Andre Hanley and Nia Francis are finalists in the competition.

     

    These young entrepreneurs will have an opportunity to set up and display his project for display and promotion at an Expo during the event.

     

    Parallel to the Expo, there will be an area set up to promote leadership links for young entrepreneurs that will be facilitated by CIC resource persons and partner organizations.

     

    The resource persons will facilitate expertise exchanges, learning and connections that support growth and expansion of youth-led businesses. The young entrepreneurs will also receive personally tailored advice from business experts through a one-on-one “entrepreneurship clinic” sessions.

     

    The opening ceremony takes place on Thursday, and will feature addresses by local government and stakeholders. The event closes on Friday with an awards ceremony where winners will be awarded in the competing categories.

     

    The CIC is an international entrepreneur competition and business start-up accelerator for young people in the CARICOM Member States. Awarding projects in three categories (Social, Economic and Environmental), the CIC promotes innovation, social enterprise and the development of entrepreneurial initiatives in diverse and new sustainability sectors.

     

    Former Ms. Universe, now  host and executive producer of Caribbean’s Next Top model Wendy Fitzwilliam, will be a special guest at the event.
