BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JUNE 2ND 2005 Electricity was being restored to some areas on St. Kitts Thursday, several hours after a motor vehicle incident in Mansion late Wednesday afternoon.
Chief Engineer/Manager at the Electricity Department, Mr. John Channer said a vehicle dislocated a transmission line pole at Mansions at 4:45 P.M., causing loss to power on the Cayon Feeder.
Shortly afterwards, the Frigate Bay Feeder tripped on over current. This caused two generators - Caterpillar # 1 and caterpillar #2 - to trip and affected the supply on the Basseterre South Feeder, said Channer in a statement Thursday.
He said at the time of the incident, the system load was 18.2 Megawatt with the following generators on line: 12MB430, 5MW; 8MB430, 5MW; Caterpillar #1, 2.6 MW; Caterpillar #2 1MW; Containerised #1, 1.1 MW; Containerised #2, 1.2 MW; Containerised #4, 1.2 MW with KV12 #1, KV12 #2, K8 and Containerised #2 on stand by.
Mr. Channer said that through the concerted effort of the staff at the Electricity Department, power has been restored to several areas overnight.
The scheduled times for the restoration of power from Christ Church to Dieppe Bay is at 11:00 A.M.; Frigate Bay (from the area of the first-round-about up to the golf course) at 2:00 P.M. and Horsfords Shopping Complex at 5:00 P.M. said Channer.
He added that the Department apologised to the affected consumers and thank them for their continued patience.
