Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 24th, 2013 (SKNIS) -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the Attorney General continues to authenticate documents with an Apostille, for persons wanting to use them overseas.
According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the use of the Apostille was first instituted at the 1961 Hague Convention, which did away with the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents.
The Apostille guarantees that public documents issued in one signatory country to the Hague Convention of 1961, will be recognized as valid in another signatory country.
With effect from Tuesday May 7, 2013 the cost of an Apostille will be increased to XCD$55.00 in stamps.
Anybody needing to legalize any public document with an Apostille must present the original or a notarized copy of the document with the amount in stamps.
