BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - An internet Café will be among a number of new additions to the Warner Park Cricket Stadium to complement other developments currently being conducted.

The new feature was highlighted by Senior Sports Officer in the Ministry of Sports Vernon Springer during an interview with SKNVibes.

“We have to finalise where we are going to locate it but you would hope that it would enhance and benefit Warner Park.

“It will be an area where you will be able to come and have lunch and also come with your laptops and connect to the internet.”

He added that a number of historical photos of past cricket legends from St. Kitts and Nevis and the Leeward Islands would be mounted on the wall of the café.

He also gave an update on the lighting project that is to be installed at the venue.

“The poles have already started to be made. They are going to be custom made; they have to make them based on the specs. There was an original four-pole design that will go up to a six-pole design. Local work will start over the next month but other works behind the scenes have already started.”

Springer stated that local contractors would be doing the work along with the engineers and technicians from Qualite Sports Lighting who have been awarded the contract to install the new infrastructure.

He continued, “St. Kitts and Nevis having lights will enhance the Warner Park Test Facility because that is the only thing that’s missing. As you know, night cricket is very important…it will enhance the game locally.”

Springer added that the lights would be complemented with a brand new electronic scoreboard which would be mounted on the western mound in the Park.

He intimated that the cost for the placement of the lights is being absorbed by the government, as it seeks to upgrade the Stadium.

With the rapid development of the shortened version of the game, night cricket has become a key innovation and is the view of many cricket experts and enthusiasts as one of the factors in the revival of West Indies cricket.
