CHARLESTOWN,NEVIS -  The Rotary club of Nevis recently benefited from a series of presentations to schools and organizations on geothermal energy and its benefits to Nevis at the Pinney’s Beach Restaurant on Thursday, November 6th.

President of the Rotary Club-Nevis, Mr. Alford Tyrell welcomed the Junior Minister with responsibility for Communications, Works, Public Utilities, Natural Resources, Posts and Environment, the Hon. Carlisle Powell to the organizations meeting. “I am pleased that Minister Powell could take time out of his busy schedule to disseminate information to the public with the ongoing geothermal project on Nevis,” commented Mr. Tyrell.

Minister Powell responded by expressing his pleasure at being given the opportunity to share with the organization.  He indicated that it was his mission, along with that of the NIA, to hear the views and entertain questions from the general populace.

After a slide presentation of pictures and text complimented with narration by the Hon. Powell, members of the Rotary Club fielded a number of questions such as: “How would geothermal benefit Nevis?” “What would be the cost to the consumer?” “ Will Nevis benefit financially from Geothermal?”

Meanwhile, Mr. Powell who is one of the main organizers of the first International Geothermal Conference on Nevis originally slated for November 7th, said that the event has had to be postponed until early 2009 due to a temporary closing of the Four Seasons resort on Nevis.

“We understand that there are other hotels that are quite elegant on Nevis, but the NIA has decided that in keeping with the islands high end tourist destination niche and also realizing that there is no other facility on the island that could accommodate 200 persons comfortably in a conference setting, we have decided to wait for the opening of the Four Seasons Resort and hold the conference there,” said Mr. Powell.
