BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THREE cases left unheard at the close of the April 2013 Criminal Assizes in Nevis were traversed to the next sitting in November.

The cases are those of Attorney Geoffrey Romany and three unnamed men.

Romany is charged with two counts of fraudulent conversion and money laundering.

It is alleged that sometime between September 1, 2010 and September 20, 2011 at Charlestown, he received US$25 000 belonging to Roger Tosse which he exploited for his personal use.

It is also alleged that between April 2, 2008 and April 10, 2012 at Charlestown, having received US$161 598 belonging to Vector Gardner, he took the money for his own personal use.

At the opening of the April Criminal Assizes, Romany told the Court that he was not ready to proceed with his matter and requested it be traversed.

His Lordship Justice John Benjamin told the Attorney that he would have made his decision as to whether or not he would traverse the matter on April 25, which was the date scheduled for his trial to begin.

    Romany's case was eventually traversed.

One of the unnamed men, who is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence for armed robbery and is facing charges for escaping custody and possession of firearm and ammunition, was expected to stand trial for rape and robbery at the Nevis Circuit Court.

However, his matter was traversed to the next sitting. The crimes were alleged to have been committed in January 2012.

The other two men were previously on trial in November 2012 for rape and robbery that was allegedly committed on November 23, 2010.

Their case, however, was declared a mistrial following the contempt of Court by their Attorney.

Their matter was traversed to this Assizes and has now been traversed to the November 2013 Criminal Assizes.
