Passenger bus and car collide in Cayon…drivers rushed to hospital

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE flow of vehicular traffic along the Island Main Road in Cayon was temporarily disrupted earlier this evening (Apr. 30) owing to the occurrence of what is considered to be a serious accident between an omnibus and a motorcar.

The incident occurred in the vicinity of the Windsor University shortly after 6:00 p.m. and has left persons scratching their heads trying to figure out what caused it.

The motorcar – which was said to have been driven by a female – was travelling in the direction of Ottley’s Village while the bus – which is owned and was being driven by a man identified only as ‘Baza’- was travelling in the opposite direction when the collision occurred.

At the end of it, the omnibus was deposited on its top on the mountain side of the road with the motorcar on the same side of the road approximately 50 feet from each other, leaving a trail of debris between them.

Inspector Carl Caines – Head of the Traffic Department – spoke to SKNVibes on the scene and indicated that the bus operator – along with a passenger – was transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital via an Emergency Medical Services unit.

He said the driver of the motorcar was also transported to the hospital for treatment but the extent of their conditions is not yet known to this publication.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged, especially their right front ends.

As more information becomes available, an update would be released via this publication.

Officers of the Cayon Police Station are making investigations into the incident.
