Mixed reactions over Music Festival line-up

Happy-sad faces
By: Precious Mills, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – NOW that the complete line-up for the 17th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival is public knowledge, people are having their say, as usual,  on what they think about the selection of artistes this time around.

While some of the acts will make debut performances, there are others who are not new to the Music Festival’s stage, such as the local band Konshens, Beres Hammond, Dagah, Tessane Chin, Shaggy, Bunji Garlin and Fay-Ann Lyons.

However, Grammy Award artiste Lionel Richie is also among the debutants.

Interestingly, last Friday (Apr. 26) during the Music Festival Local Marketing Committee’s ‘Jump Off’ event at the Independence Square, patrons were asked by host DJ Kupid who they wanted to see this year and Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said, “Lionel Richie.”

However, despite the mixed feelings of the public, fans and music lovers have identified at least one act or night that they are looking forward to, while some have indicated that they would be getting a seasonal pass and others claimed that they would not be attending.

Following today’s live-aired announcement, the ‘talk’ immediately started in the streets and some people have taken the St. Kitts Music Festival’s popular social network to air their views as well.

Below are some of the comments expressed:

    • “Konshens, Shaggy, Beres Bungi Garlin, Etiene Charles and Lionel Ritchie...glad I booked my flight. Good job St. Kitts Music Festival organisers. I coming from Toronto Canada. Would be nice to see Drake up on the list....”

    • “This ain’t sweet at all! The only night sweet is Thursday and that’s it. You all just repeating the same artist all the time. Come on, you guys can do better than that...you all need to organise the Federation survey yearly.”
