GVG Health Walk A Success

By: GVG, Press Release

Green Valley Global, May 3rd, 2013  --  On Saturday, April 27, 2013 Green Valley Global's President Ms. Glennis Phoenix lead her members and a cast of about 20 adults and children on the organization's third annual Health Walk/Run through Central Park.

The spring walk/run commenced and ended at 110 Street and Central Park West with some participants walking the entire route while a few individuals effortlessly ran the 3 miles.

The event was held to support the Green Valley Festival Committee as it honours the community's seniors on Sunday May 12, during a "Hats Off To Our Seniors Luncheon" to be held at the Bethesda Moravian Church in Cayon. This year's health walk/run was also held with a view to promote healthy habits in the lives of the participants and their families.

At the end of the walk/run, the participants were treated to a healthy brunch that included bush tea, fresh fruits, lemonade, orange juice, rolls, salt fish, ocra, eggs, turkey sausages, and bottles upon bottles of water.

Unfortunately, this year's health seminar that was to be presented by Certified Nurse Practitioner Mr. Keith Robinson was canceled because of a sudden death in the nurse's family during the early hours of Saturday morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with Nurse Robinson and his family.

The opportunity to interact with family and friends during a healthy event for the purpose of assisting others was certainly a worthwhile undertaking and the guests seemed rather pleased to be associated with the health initiative despite the fact that the nurse was not present to conduct health checks as he had done in previous years.

Noteworthy of mention is the support from other New York based groups.  Green Valley Global is extremely pleased with the support it garnered from the Mission and several other groups such as the St. Kitts Graduates Soccer Club and The St. Peters Alumni and Friends. Green Valley Global looks forward to continued support for other such initiatives.

GVG President Ms. Glennis Phoenix offered warm words of appreciation to all participants for supporting the walk and reminded them that the event's success was solely because of their support. She also encouraged everyone in attendance to plan ahead for a bigger and better 2014 walk and health fair.

The health walk is an opportunity for bonding with other citizens in the Diaspora and an invaluable gesture of love and appreciation for the seniors of the Green Valley community and its environs.

The Green Valley Festival Committee is celebrating seventeen years of community building, this year under the theme "We Still Got It". As in the past, the Green Valley celebration will seek to touch all facets of the Green Valley community and the residents will use the opportunity to showcase the pride and community spirit among its tightly knit community.

It's a must see "We Still Got It" affair in Cayon this May. Plan to support the Green Valley Community!

The Green Valley Festival runs from May 10 to May 20, 2013.
