BASSETERRE St. Kitts, May 3rd, 2013 -- It was a night of pomp and ceremony at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College! Professor Eustace Esdaille, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the CFBC, presented certificates to 24 graduates of the CFBC-Jenkins Limited Leadership Programme.
The Leadership Programme which was sponsored by Jenkins Limited was a 2012 Independence gift to our nation.
The programme which lasted for about 14 weeks began with 29 adult students. The retention rate was 80%, therefore 24 students graduated on the night of Thursday 25th April 2013.
In the presence of the Ministry of Education and CFBC officials, Family members and honourees, the evening began with the singing of the National Anthem by Ticosa Henry.
Ticosa is a former ZIZ Kittitian Superstar Juniors Finalist.
The prayer was said by a member of the Graduating Class, Pastor Johnson Cuffy of Lime.
Sandra Richardson of National Bank presented a vivid and interesting Overview of the Course.
It was also a night when respect was shown to four persons who made extraordinary contributions to the development of St Kitts-Nevis.
The first group to present was the Phillip Group. They showcased the contribution to education of Mrs. Veronica Phillip. Mrs. Phillip served at the Epworth Junior School, now Maurice Hillier Memorial for over 44 years, 34 of which she served as Headmistress.
She became the Headmistress at the age of 25 years.
The second group to present recorded the contribution of C. E. Jenkins to the development of St Kitts in the field of Business, Construction and Real Estate.
He was also the first Chairman of the National Carnival Committee.
The presentations on the outstanding nationals were interspersed by remarks by the President of CFBC, Dr. Hermia Morton-Anthony. She noted that the CFBC-Jenkins Ltd Leadership programme was the first home grown leadership programme to be introduced by the CFBC. It was also significant that the programme brought attention to the contributions of outstanding Nationals of St Kitts-Nevis.
Graduates of the programme presented a musical item. A very interesting choral speaking piece, written by Shez Dore-Tyson of the Ministry of Agriculture was also well received.
The final two presentations were made by the Esdaille Group and the Procope Group. The Esdaille Group showcased the contribution of the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Professor Eustace Esdaille.
Professor Esdaille became the Headmaster of the Basseterre High School in 1967 at the age of 25 years.
Following his outstanding tenure at BHS, Professor Esdaille served in the Cayman Islands. He was a founding member of the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC).
Following stints in the USA, Professor Esdaille returned to the region where he lectures at the University of the Virgin Islands.
The final presentation recorded the pioneer and visionary work of the late Stanley V. Procope.
Stanley V. Procope was a founding member of the Worker’s League. He was one of the pioneers of the Penny Bank/Industrial Bank which was transformed into the St Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank in 1971.
He was the first Chairman of the National Bank and served in that capacity until 1980.
He resigned as Director in 1982.
The feature address was presented by the Commissioner of Police, C. G. Walwyn. The Commissioner reflected on his work in St Kitts-Nevis. He detailed what was required of him as a leader to bring about the significant drop in the crime rate in the Federation.
The vote of thanks was presented by a graduate of the programme, Mrs. Elzeva Cuffy of the Ministry of Social Development.
The programme which started on the 29th October 2012, covered a number of areas. The main lecturer was R. A Peter Jenkins, BSc, MSc, of Jenkins Limited. He was supported by three lecturers from CFBC, namely Mr. Hugh Heyliger, Ms. Shauna Williams and Dr. Hermia Morton-Anthony. There were 13 visiting lecturers. They were Sir K. Dwight Venner, Sir Probyn Inniss, Mr. Melvin Edwards, Professor Eustace Arrindell, Mr. Denzil Crooke, Mr. Goldwin Caines, Ms. Dauna Manchester, Mr. Starret Greene, Dr. Patrick Martin, Mrs. Heather Richardson-Henry, Mr. Victor Williams, Mrs. Lavern Caines, and Cannon Isaiah Phillip.
The Graduation ceremony was ably chaired by Mrs. Diana Williams-Humphrey of the National Bank & Mr. Steve McMahon of Social Security.
The CFBC and Jenkins Limited would like to congratulate the twenty-four students who successfully completed the Leadership Programme.
