BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – “Talk it, Express it, Dramatize it!” is the theme for Drama Day, the Ministry of Education’s most recent youth initiative, to be held in the Independence Square on tomorrow, Thursday, November 13 at 9:30 a.m.

The event is expected to draw some 300 students from the eighteen primary schools in the country to make 15-minute dramatic presentations bearing positive messages.

Drama coordinator in the Ministry of Education and organizer of the event Moses Byron informed that Drama Day is to bring awareness of the art-form to primary schools and by extension the general public.

“I have realized that many persons don’t see drama as being worthwhile. They don’t appreciate the academic value that exists in drama. It challenges students’ expression and enhances their creative skills.

Also, it helps to expose youth to various issues facing our society. So, through this endeavour, we are trying to show the many positive possibilities to be experienced through the widely-loved art-form.

~~Adz:Right~~Byron, a local playwright, explained to SKNVibes that Drama Day should give the general public a better view of quality drama while at the same time act as a means through which messages greatly affecting youth can be communicated to the public.

The pieces presented will create a positive impact on youth and would serve not only to entertain but also to inform and educate the public, he said.

Byron added that the day-long event should generate interest in more young people to appreciate drama and would “without doubt bring forth positive change”. He further stated that the day offers an opportunity to allow many of the talented students who would, by no other means, have a chance to dramatically express themselves.

The Drama Director encouraged the general public to turn out and support the students as they talk, express and dramatize the issues pertinent to them.
