BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - VERNICIA WYATT of Constituency Number Five was crowned Queen of the 2013 Miss Labour ‘Full Confidence’ Pageant during the wee hours of this morning (May 5) before a packed audience at Carnival Village in Basseterre.

The 18-year-old Sandy Point beauty amassed a total of 543 points and captured two of the four judged segments - Best Promotional Speech and Best Performing Talent with 114 points 151 points respectively.

She was crowned by Prime Minister and Leader of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.

Tears were seen streaming down the young beauty’s face just before announcement of the winner, and she revealed to this media house that she cried because of an anticipated victory.

Notably, Constituency Number Four fell short of winning this Pageant for the third consecutive year as its representative, Kadesha Hodge, was adjudged First Runner-up with 517 points. She however walked away with Best Creative Wear for an ensemble called ‘Enchantress of the Seas’ for which she gained 162 points.

Kashema Gumbs of Constituency Number One was the Second Runner-up with 482.5 points.

Third Runner up was Constituency Number Two representative Patonenia Gilbert with 475 points.   She won Best Evening Wear with a blue glittery dress dubbed ‘Ocean Glitter’ capturing 122 points.

For Wyatt’s talent, she did a monologue in which she dramatised a relationship of infidelity. It was based on a political slant, whereby her ‘Labour man’ cheated with ‘Miss Unity’.

At one point of her bashing in heat of bitterness, as if speaking to the audience, she belted out “awru so call Labour man”.

Wyatt told her story from jail, since she had resorted to violence to break up the relation between the two. She was distraught over what she did and exhibited remorse.

Nearing the end of her performance, she advised women in the audience not to do what she did, while accusing some men of being unfaithful and urged them to desist.

The other contestants were Jozette George of Constituency Number Three, Kishnelle Romney of Constituency Number Six, Iyanla Huggins of Constituency Number Seven and D’nique Bass of Constituency Number Eight.

Backstage, after being congratulated by her mnay supporters, SKNVibes chit-chatted with the smiling Queen and asked how she felt about her victory.

“I feel good. I feel like a real queen.”

As for the crying before her name was called, she explained that they were “tears of joy because I knew I would have won”.

SKNVibes was told that Wyatt is a former Easterama Queen and also a former Talented Teen contestant.

Special guest RDX out of Jamaica performed for close to one hour and did a number of hits including ‘Kotch’, ‘Jump’ and ‘Bend Over’, which were met screams and shouts from adoring female fans.

Two female patrons got in on the RDX show as they both wined and gyrated to the booming tunes which went well with the audience.

Gilbert was very impressive during the Talent segment in which she did a musical mix of different songs, including gospel tunes, and improvised lyrics to Bob Marley’s ‘Don’t’ Worry’  to say ‘PM Don’t worry about a thing”.

She also asked PM Douglas to join her at the front of the stage as she sat and serenaded him with the popular ‘One in a Million’ tune and crowned him at the end of her performance, but not before giving him a few complimentary and encouraging words.

Other acts last night included Sweet Temptation Dancers, calypsonians Chris Conqueror and Lady Charisma.

The show was hosted by 2011  Miss Labour Zaiesha Joseph and Delante Lewis, and the Master of Ceremonies was popular radio personality EK.

The house band was Royalties, and Kollison Band brought the curtains down with a jam session, delivering their popular hits ‘Hustle’ and ‘Armed and Dangerous’.
