Fire officers make Presentations to schools

~~Adz:Right~~ Roadtown, Tortola - Officers from the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Service Department are continuing their efforts to educate the Territory’s students on the importance of fire prevention.

The officers on Monday distributed literature to several schools in the Territory. Station Officer at the Fire and Rescue Service Department Mr. William Penn told the Department of Information and Public Relations the best way to prevent a fire is through education.

“We are taking the time to make these presentations to the schools in the Territory to ensure that children understand the importance of fire prevention by making the learning experience enjoyable and creative. Children grasp information quickly and by teaching them the information, they in turn will relay the information to their parents,” Mr. Penn said.

In addition to the presentations made to the schools, the department through its Service Delivery Unit has also conducted a number fire education programmes in the schools as well as fire suppression training for a number of Government departments, statutory bodies and private sector organisations.  The initiatives are in keeping with the main goal of the department’s service charter, which is to empower the people of the Territory with safety information.

The mission of the Fire and Rescue Service Department is to save and protect lives and to minimise damage to property by preventing and extinguishing fires.
