PAM hosts successful May Day Fair despite weather conditions

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - DESPITE the inclement weather, the People's Action Movement (PAM) hosted a very successful May Day Fair which saw an enormous crowd going out to kick back, relax and enjoy a special day that was given in honour of those persons who had toiled hard during the year.

The annual event was held at the political party's Headquarters at Lockhart Street and saw adults young and old, as well as children of all ages out in their numbers enjoying breakfast, mingling and just having a good time.

The day began with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. with some 1 000 persons partaking in the scrumptious meal which included salt fish, Johnny Cakes, eggs, bacon and sausage.

The middle portion of the day was slow due to the light thunderstorm, but that did not stop persons from flocking the kitchen area to dig into the mouth-watering lunch while others chilled at the bars with drinks in hand.

As the day progressed and the sun began to shine, the crowd picked up and the recreation continued.

With music in the background 'keeping it jiggy' with popular selections from the local bands as well as notable Caribbean artistes, the children enjoyed their time on the bouncing castle while parents and other supporters conversed and looked on as some played dominoes.

The event climaxed when the ‘Sweetest Band in the World’, Small Axe, took to the stage and rocked the crowd with some of their popular tunes, including their latest - ‘Do De DCH’.

In a previous interview with SKNVibes, the then Chairman of PAM, Selwyn 'Rusty' Liburd, said that the May Day activity is staged specifically for their supporters.

"This event is put on for the supporters so that they would have something to do on May Day. We do not call it Labour Day…we call it May Day. Instead of just the Labour activities, we have our own activities. It is a place for them to come and identify and represent with us."
