BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THERE has been a significant increase in traffic accidents in St. Kitts over the past three months, and the most-recent took place this morning (May 9) along the Island Main Road (IMR) in the vicinity of CONTEC.
The incident, according to Head of the Traffic Department Inspector Carl Caines, took place sometime between 9:45 and 10:20 and had involved a motor pickup truck which bore the registration number P7489.
Details are still sketchy at this point but the Inspector explained that the driver – a female whose name was only given as Gumbs – was travelling from Basseterre’s direction towards Keys. However, while in the vicinity of CONTEC, the vehicle ran off the road and ended up in a ditch on its side on the western side of the thoroughfare.
The driver was reportedly transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital by an Emergency Medical Services unit.
The extent of her injuries – if there were any – are not yet known to this publication.
Inspector Caines told SKNVibes that an update would be provided following additional investigations into the incident.
